- Abu Simbel: two rock-cut temples of Ramesses II, carved around 1264-1244 BC: the Great Temple (four seated colossi about 20 m tall) and the Temple of Hathor and Nefertari (six standing statues about 10 m tall).
- Moved in the 1960s (completed 1968) about 65 m higher and some 200 m back from the river in the UNESCO campaign to save the Nubian monuments; part of the World Heritage property 'Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae'.
- Entry 2026 on the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' official ticket site (egymonuments.com): foreign adults EGP 822, students up to 24 EGP 445.5, under-6s free; on 22 February and 22 October EGP 1,272 (students EGP 670.5). One ticket covers both temples. The gate takes bank cards, not cash.

- The sun alignment is on 22 February and 22 October, not on the equinoxes.
- One ticket covers both temples; there is no separate Nefertari ticket at Abu Simbel (the Tomb of Nefertari ticket is in Luxor).
- Abu Simbel is much closer to Aswan (about 280-300 km) than to Luxor (about 480 km).
- Not every Abu Simbel tour includes the entry ticket: some sell it as an option, cruises usually leave it to be paid locally.
